FACET is committed to furthering engagement with the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and sharing of best practices of teaching and learning. All inititatives, awards, and opportunities are open to all instructors regardless of rank (unless noted).

Study and Share

FACET-supported programs invite you to study and share about teaching and learning.

Mack Fellowship (full-time faculty)

The goal of the Mack Fellowship program is to promote and enhance the community of IU faculty engaged in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Travel Grants (all instructors)

Faculty presenting SoTL work at a conference can apply for funding up to $750 towards travel expenses. Applications will be evaluated and awards made twice a year.

SoTL 101

SoTL 101 is designed for those who have never done SoTL or social science research. It includes eight steps in the process as well as other resources.

Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

This peer-reviewed journal publishes data-driven studies, case studies, essays, and other articles that promote effective practices in teaching and learning.

Journal of Teaching and Learning with Technology

JoTLT is an international journal that provides a platform for academicians all over the world to promote, share, and discuss what does and does not work when using technology.

Quick Hits: Creativity in the Classroom

Innovate Awards

Innovate Awards recognize faculty who bring passion, innovation, and creativity to the classroom to promote student success. Anyone with responsibility of teaching an undergraduate or graduate class at an IU campus or FACET Fort Wayne, regardless of status or rank, is eligible to apply.

Quick Hits

The original Quick Hits was inspired by a FACET gathering for exchanging teaching tips. Since then, the Quick Hits series has helped countless faculty members become better teachers. Addressing topics ranging from the first day of class to teaching with technology, each Quick Hits book features techniques and strategies from award-winning college teachers.

P.A. Mack Award

The annual P.A. Mack Award honors members of the IU community who have demonstrated excellence and distinguished service to teaching that are consistent with FACET’s goals and ideals. P.A. Mack was a former IU trustee and lifelong advocate for teaching excellence.

Affiliate Membership

FACET members recognize that some friends of FACET have performed service, over an extended period, actualizing FACET’s values and helping many others actualize FACET’s values. We believe that the enduring nature and magnitude of importance of these friends.

Friends of FACET

This award recognizes true advocates for teaching excellence and serves as a "thank you" that we believe many persons deserve. FACET members can nominate someone for the Friends of FACET Award by submitting a one-to-two page nomination letter to their campus associate director.

FACET provides opportunity to showcase teaching skills and innovations and commitment to evidence-based professional development.

Teaching for Student Success

Teaching for Student Success: An Evidence-Based Approach (TSS) provides a framework for teaching and learning grounded in empirical research. Whether you’re a new instructor or have been teaching for years, teach face-to-face, hybrid, or online, these modules will help you articulate your own teaching philosophy and better serve your students, regardless of discipline.

Repository of Resources

Repository of Resources is an online portal that pools and categorizes IU's wide umbrella of resources available to support and facilitate faculty development and professionalism.

FACET Statement on Teaching Excellence

The FACET Excellence in Teaching Task Force 2014-2015 has prepared this report on best practices in evaluating excellence in teaching.

Pathways Document

These recommendations can serve as a set of university-wide guidance and expectations for implementation at the campus, school, and department levels.

Bender Fellowship (FACET Members)

The Bender FACET Fellows program helps selected FACET members learn about our statewide programs and grow as leaders. Fellows work on statewide projects in cooperation with the FACET office and, in some cases, a planning committee.

Leadership Institute

The FACET Leadership Institute (LI) kicks off a 12-18 month theme-based project on each campus. Teams identify and implement a project to enhance the university learning environment along a theme specified by the Leadership Institute Planning Committee.
