Bender FACET Fellows

Bender FACET Fellows learn about our statewide programs and grow as leaders. Named in honor of FACET founder Eileen Bender and geared toward newer members, the fellowship is good preparation for those who could eventually be the FACET director. Fellows work on statewide projects in cooperation with the FACET office and, in some cases, a planning committee. These events, programs, and publications could include any of FACET's current initiatives or one proposed and accepted by the FACET office.

Current Bender Fellow projects include:

  • Israel Herrera - Working with faculty governance to establish annual FACET reporting at meetings, determine useful campus-level reporting with EVCAA and VPFAA/VPUE input, and update the role and process of FACET leadership campus visits.
  • Donna Dahlgren - Preparing learning stories for learning.iu.edu by students and alumni.
  • Clark Barwick - Gathering data and analyzing current membership activity and preparing recommendations to inspire ongoing engagement.
  • Nikki Weller and Allen Davis - Implementing a DEIJ-training for faculty using an applied arts approach.

Fellowship Details and Compensation

Only FACET members are eligible for the fellowship. Candidates decide whether they prefer a one-semester or one-year fellowship, and we can award up to two fellowships each semester.

Upon acceptance, Bender FACET Fellows meet with the FACET director and staff to develop a plan for achieving their goals. Fellows also submit monthly updates to the FACET director and a final report outlining their achievements in reaching their goals. Fellows receive $3,000 or $6,000 depending on the length of the fellowship.

Most Bender FACET Fellows work from their own campuses with occasional video conferences and visits to the statewide office. Other projects may require different arrangements.
