Beyond Borders and Boundaries
Fourwinds Lakeside Inn & Marina, Bloomington, IN
We have experienced tremendous change across our nation and within our institutions. While change can certainly bring challenges, it can also bring opportunities for professional and personal growth with which we can push ourselves and our students beyond borders and boundaries. All of us have our comfort zones and areas where we frequently spend most of our focus and time, when we go beyond this, we have the potential to grow and see things from different perspectives. Moving beyond our boundaries helps us maintain excellence and develop new areas of excellence while also challenging us to move beyond our comfort zones.
This year's retreat will be open to FACET members, nominees, and special guests (such as Innovate Awards finalists). Each member will be able to invite one of their non-FACET member colleagues as a guest. This guest can co-present with the FACET member.
The central theme, Beyond Borders and Boundaries, will explore how we, as educators and individuals:
- Go beyond what we think is possible in ourselves, our teaching and learning, or with others to allow us to embrace change, empower ourselves and others, and ultimately push past our limits. This theme calls on us to explore our journeys, evolving roles, and changing expectations as faculty. Proposals related to this theme ready us for the challenges of moving into the unknown. It could be about mental wellbeing, resilience, or growth mindset, but the focus should be on our readiness as faculty to continue learning and embracing the future.
- Seek opportunities for growth in a globalized society for ourselves and students. This theme considers ideas around globalizing the student experience within and beyond the four walls such as through high impact practices on student overseas studies, internships, or undergraduate research. It could also consider the ways technology can change the boundaries of learning environments or support new ways of growing and learning.
