FACET is issuing this Call for Submissions seeking contributions for a new edited collection titled Quick Hits: Creativity in the Classroom to be published by Indiana University Press.
With the proven effectiveness of active learning and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) pedagogies, we see the appeal and understand the need for creativity in the classroom. Additionally, we champion diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging (DEIJB), and these values increasingly inform teaching practices to make our classrooms welcoming and empowering places and spaces, whether in person or online. As these effective teaching practices and values are necessary for ensuring students’ wellbeing and persistence and demand creative approaches, this book will provide university and college instructors with teaching strategies, digital tools, materials, ideas, assignments, and the like to foster engagement with as many students as possible while supporting faculty and student agency in the learning process. Creativity is highly valued in and of itself, and the cultivation of it in the classroom, leading to experiences and artifacts that students can highlight, will enhance students’ opportunities to demonstrate their growth and what they have learned inside and beyond the classroom.
Whether we are talking about course design, assignment design, class activities, motivation and engagement skills, psychological safety and stress reduction, or resiliency adaptations and culture changes, creativity provides us with a way to discuss, design, implement and assess teaching and learning. We are currently seeking contributions describing a creative approach to teaching and learning to support student success, with a particular interest in work relating to:
- Creativity in describing learning outcomes
- Creativity in assessing learning
- Creativity in learning activities
- Creativity in learning resources
- Creativity in pedagogical processes and learning environments
