It's time to register for the virtual 2021 FALCON! FALCON will be held on November 13 from 9 am - 4:30 pm. This year's theme is Lessons Learned: The Pivot, Priorities, Perspectives, and Possibilities.
Registration is open to part-time and non-tenure track faculty members from institutions of higher education around the world. Space is limited, be sure register as soon as possible!
The conference is being hosted on Canvas through Indiana University. You must self-enroll to the course, the link to self-enroll will be provided via email to all registrants. Before self-enrolling, if you do not have an IU account, you must create an IU Guest Account to access the virtual conference. There is no cost to create an account and it only takes a minute to complete the form. Once your guest account is completed, you must login to Canvas.IU.edu to turn on your access to Canvas.
The schedule begins with the Robin Hass-Birky Lecture given by Jessica Calarco, Associate Professor of Sociology, IU Bloomington. Calarco's presentation Teaching with Empathy for Equity will discuss what that approach looks like in practice, with concrete recommendations for instructors teaching face-to-face and remotely. Followed by concurrent sessions centered around the conference theme. The afternoon plenary with speakers Catherine Macris and Jay VanderVeen. Macris's presentation Authentic Projects as Alternative Assessments: Examples from an Introductory STEM Course will discuss the alternative assesments she incorporated in her Introductory Mineralogy course. VanderVeen's presentation Catching Kindness: Building a Learning Community Through Social Media Collaboration, Ungrading, Creative Assignments, and Other Untried Efforts in Unprecedented Times will showcase collaboration in navigating student assesment during the pivot to online instruction.
