Barbara Kutis has been selected as a Bender FACET Faculty Fellowship for Spring through Summer 2021 to assist with gathering teaching strategies for the new version of Teaching.IU. Kutis is an Associate Professor of Fine Arts at IU Southeast and recent FACET inductee (Class of 2020).
Kutis has taught at IU Southeast since 2014. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Santa Clara University and her Master of Arts in Art History from the Pennsylvania State University, where she also served as a graduate curatorial assistant at the Palmer Museum of Art. Her Master's thesis Images of an Avant-Garde Mother: Joan Brown's Portraits of Her Son developed her interest in motherhood and maternal studies and lead to her dissertation, Artist-Parents: Nature, Nurture, and Identity in Contemporary Art, which she completed at the University of Delaware.
Her Bender fellow project will have two components. In the spring, she will focus on compiling teaching strategies that are currently part of the Teaching for Student Success (TSS) module series and preparing them to be part of Teaching.IU. During the summer, Kutis will gather strategies from other already existed sources, such as Quick Hits, JoSoTL and JoTLT special issues, and more.
We are excited to work with Kutis on this project, as well as the important work of revising and launching Teaching.IU.
