FACET’s 2017 Annual Retreat will have the theme Catalysts for Change: The Transformative Possibilities of Teaching and Learning and will take place at Brown County Inn in Nashville, Indiana, on May 19-21. Proposals are due February 1, 2017, and the call is accessible through a conference management system that we are experimenting with this year.
Topics can range from the practical to the theoretical--from how specific pedagogical strategies help transform students to how our teaching is responding to changing political, economic and cultural conditions. Possible topics include:
The energy inherent during change--renewal, enthusiasm, inspiration, and commitment
Teaching and learning in the wake of the election or another event
How space changes learning: teaching online, outside the conventional classroom, abroad, etc.
The transformative power of community engagement
Addressing student fears about change
Transforming student mindsets about learning
(Re)Designing the academic environment for specific generations of students, such as Gen Z
How new technologies transform teaching (for good or ill)
How teaching and learning relate to the changing world
How students and teachers transforms themselves in the process of learning
- How educators change their approaches and practices in teaching as well as students change their practices of learning
We will manage the conference proposals and schedule through an open conference system ("OCS"). The OCS will look familiar as it runs on the same platform as the Open Journal System that we use to manage JoSoTL an JoTLT. The system will allow us to create a sustainable archive of the retreat.
