Israel Herrera is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, and he is the Outreach and Experiential Learning supervisor in his department. He supervises 7 student groups on campus, and he was inducted into FACET in 2014. He has received the 2021 IU W. George Pinnell Award for Outstanding Service, the 2019 IUB Mary Bungan Distinguished Service Award, the 2018 National Spanish Teacher of the Year Award, the 2017 IU President's Award for Distinguished Teaching, the 2015 COMU Award for Teaching and Service, and the 2014 Indiana Latino Educator of the Year Award.
